Daytripping to Liverpool

He Said:
The cold, gray and windy weather has continued here in the northwest of England, so, we decided to take a day trip to Liverpool.  We had a free day on our train passes, so we thought; why not visit the center of the world of pop music?  Liverpool is only 45 minutes from Chester by rail, so it was easy.  We took the train and got off at the James street station in Liverpool, less than 1/2 mile from the Albert Docks.
The Beatles certainly left a lasting impression on Liverpool, this year marked the 50th anniversary of their first success at the Cavern Club and their discovery by Brian Epstein.  Four local boys that made good.  Today, there are numerous reminders of the Beatles throughout the main part of the city, and even a few museums of different kinds, stores, pubs, bars, book stores....  There were also plenty of other entertainers that were popular then, and they are also honored.  Liverpool has many museums, many are free to explore, and on this last day of the Jubilee Bank Holiday, there were many families out for the day despite the cold weather.
We went to the "Beatles Story" museum at the Albert Dock which presented a chronology of events in their lives, with photos and audio narration. We both enjoyed the experience; renewing memories which brought us back to the world of our youth.  They really were talented, had great charisma, and burst forth at the perfect time for the youth of the world.

After lunch, we went to the Tate Liverpool museum that was nearby.  E stayed there to look around, and I went on a walk for an hour along the Mersey.  Later, I went to find the Cavern Club which is closer to the center of the city, the club is still there, but has changed into a bar and a bit of a tourist place.  It's on a small lane with small shops, restaurants and bars.
Later, we took the train back to Chester, glad that the main front of rain had held off until the late afternoon.

Here are some of our photos from today:
