Chepstow to Llandogo, 1st day of walking, May 20

We have had some trouble updating the blog due to the inability of getting an internet connection at our B&Bs, and so are late in updating things.
On May 20, we walked 11.5 miles (10.5 miles on the path) from Chepstow to Llandogo, Wales.  The walking route went up and down several times and had a total of perhaps 3000' of climbing and descending, a strong start to our trip.  The river Wye is tidal for perhaps 15 miles from where it enters the Severn and the Bristol Channel.  We learned that Chepstow has the 2nd highest tide in the world (next to the Bay of Fundy), the Chepstow tide is about 33' maximum.
After the first 6 hilly, forested miles on the path, we paid a quick visit to Tintern Abbey down alongside the river Wye.  The Cistercian abbey was started around 1131AD, and expanded in the 12th century.  This was a good chance to have a bite to eat from our packed lunches to prepare for the next 5 hilly miles.
